FRIENDS OF ROBBINS FARM PARK EVENTS

 

  • Spring Cleanup & Kite Day——-Saturday, April 30th, 9am
    Bring your trowels, rakes, leaf rakes, shovels and pruning shears and meet your neighbors at the Park! And while we’re there, we’ll celebrate the crocus, daffodils and tulips planted at Robbins Farm Park last fall! At 1pm, bring you kites as well and hope for good wind at one of the area’s best kite-flying locations. If you come early and help in the cleanup, you’ll get a free kite.
  • Independence Day Celebration———-Monday, July 4th, 6pm
    On the 4th of July, Arlington will again celebrate America’s birthday in style at Robbins Farm Park.There will be music, musical entertainment provided by the “The Reminisants”, and of course, the Boston Pops Orchestra and Fireworks on the giant screen (fireworks start at 10:30pm). The event is free and open to all.Food and refreshments will be available for sale at modest prices to help support the event.
  • Harvard Alumni Jazz Band Concert ————-Thursday, July 14th, 6pm
    Join us on for a free jazz concert by the Alumni Jazz Band, a 17-piece jazz big band with members from Arlington and surrounding communities. Enjoy the music of Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and many others! This eighth annual concert is FREE thanks to the generosity of the band, which includes neighborhood resident Allen Feinstein. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring your own picnic dinner.
  • Shakespeare in the Park——- Friday, August 5th, 6:30pm
    The Friends of Robbins Farm Park are again pleased to co-sponsor another summer Shakespeare performance. Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” will be performed by the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Apprentice Program. This year’s play will take place at Menotomy Rocks Park.
  • Classical Concert (with members of the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra)—-Saturday, August 13th 6pm (Raindate: Sunday, August 14th, 6pm)
    Join us for a free classical music concert with performers from the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra with members from Arlington and surrounding communities. The concert is FREE and features music by a variety of composers. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring their own picnic dinner.
  • Rockin’ Robbins Concert———— Saturday, August 27th, 4:00pm
    For this year’s concert we’re very pleased to invite back the performers that inaugurated our very first Rockin’ Robbins Concert series back in 2010. Our two bands, Stanley and the Undercovers (featuring Stanley Pollack) and Chris Nauman & Friends, will be performing at our eighth annual RR Concert. The concert is FREE thanks to the generosity of the bands, which both feature some performers who live in the park neighborhood. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring a picnic dinner.

  • Town Day——- Saturday, September 17th, 10am to 3pm
    Come by the FORFP booth and say hello!
  • Moonlight Beach Party——- Saturday, September 17th, 7pm, Reservoir Beach
    The Moonlight Beach Party is a fun night under the stars at Reservoir Beach. This event raises money to support our 27 parks and playgrounds in Arlington. The Arlington Parks Alliance partners with the Arlington Recreation Department to host this unique community event. To learn more about the APA and to purchase tickets visit Arlington Parks Alliance. Tickets can also be purchased through the Recreation Dept., in person, by phone at 781-316-3880 or online at Arlington Recreation Department.
  • Annual Field Day—CANCELLED—- Saturday, October 22nd, 1pm to 5pm
    This family-oriented event will include old-fashioned races (3-legged, egg-on-the spoon, sack race, etc.) and a nature scavenger hunt. Moon walks, face painting, and seasonal refreshments will be available for a nominal charge.
  • Fall Cleanup & Bulb Planting——- Saturday, November 5th, 9am to 12pm
    Join your friends and neighbors to get the park ready for winter (and spring)!
  • Robbins Farm Park Improvement Project – PUBLIC INPUT MEETING —– Saturday, November 5th, 10am – 1pm
    Sponsored by the Town of Arlington Park and Recreation Commission. The public is invited to this forum to learn about the big changes coming to the park in 2017! New Recreation Department Director Jon Marshall and the Landscape Architects who will be designing the new plan will be on hand to explain the plans and get feedback from the Park community.

OTHER EVENTS AT ROBBINS FARM PARK

    • Astronomy Nights 2016 with Jeff Alexander
      Explore the wonders of the deep sky! Use the summer constellations to learn to locate deep sky objects like star clusters, galaxies, and nebulas. Some of these objects can even be spotted with binoculars on a dark night, so bring a pair if you have them! Click here for details.

 

    • Folk Arts Center of New England——- July 31st, 3pm to 5pm (Rain date, Aug. 7th)
      Third annual Free Family Folk Dance at Robbins Farm Park, Arlington, adjacent to the playground. Live professional folk musicians. Easy international and American folk dances will be taught. Beginners and children welcome. Sponsored by the Folk Arts Center of New England. Check 781-438-4389 or Folk Arts Center of New England. after 12 noon, for possible weather cancellation.
