2012 Robbins Farm Park Events

FRIENDS OF ROBBINS FARM PARK EVENTS

  • Spring Clean-Up & Kite Day ——- Saturday, April 28th, 9am & 1pm
    Bring your trowels, rakes, leaf rakes, shovels and pruning shears and meet your neighbors at the Park! And while we’re there, we’ll celebrate the crocus, daffodils and tulips planted at Robbins Farm Park last fall! At 1pm, bring you kites as well and hope for good wind at one of the area’s best kite-flying locations. If you come early and help in the cleanup, you’ll get a free kite.
  • Slide Grand Opening ——-Saturday, May 12th, (Rain date May 19th), 4pm
    Join us for the official grand opening of the new double slides at the Park’s playground. We are hosting a party in honor of our new slides. We will have a ribbon cutting, honor a few individuals who made special contributions, and share some refreshments.
  • Independence Day Celebration——- Wednesday, July 4th, 6pm
    On the 4th of July, Arlington will again celebrate America’s birthday in style at Robbins Farm Park. There will be musical entertainment from the John Penny Band (starting at 7:00), refreshments, and of course, the Boston Pops Orchestra and Fireworks on the giant screen (fireworks start at 10:30). The event is free and open to all.
  • Harvard Alumni Jazz Band ——–Free—–Thursday, July 19th, 6:30pm
    Join us on for a free jazz concert by the Alumni Jazz Band, a 15-piece jazz big band with members from Arlington and surrounding communities. Enjoy the music of Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and many others! The concert is FREE thanks to the generosity of the band, which includes neighborhood resident Allen Feinstein. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring your own picnic dinner.! This is a great event for all ages.   • Shakespeare in the Park————Sunday, July 22th, 5pm
    Join us for an open-air presentation of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”. It will be performed by the Arlington Children’s Theatre in cooperation with Arlington Center for the Arts. The performance will take place at Menotomy Rocks Park.
  • Rockin’ Robbins Concert——–Free—–Saturday, August 18th, 6pm to 8pm
    The Friends of Robbins Farm Park would like to invite everyone to our third annual Rockin’ Robbins Concert. This year two bands that have performed for us before are back to entertain us: Chris Nauman and Friends, and Walk Don’t Run. Park neighbor, Chris Nauman is a singer/songwriter who pumps passion into his performance with his dynamic guitar work and expressive vocals. His spirited blend of folk rock draws inspiration from Neil Young,Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger, among many others. For more on Chris check out this link.Walk Don’t Run plays melodic pop/rock with blues and country influences. Straight-ahead beats and harmony vocals are blended with retro-rock grooves in their music. Hear some of their music at this link.

    The concert is FREE thanks to the generosity of the bands. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring a blanket and a picnic dinner to enjoy along with some great music.

  • Movie Night ——-Saturday, August 25th, approx. 8pm.
    The Friends will again present our popular movie night. Tonight’s feature, the Oscar-winning, family film, “The Incredibles”. Light refreshments will be sold.
  • Summer Concert ——–Free—–Date TBA
    Join us for another free summer concert. Watch for details.
  • Arlington Town Day ——Saturday, September 15th (Rain Date 9/22). 10am to 3:00pm
    Come by the FORFP booth and say hello!
  • Boston Baseball Night—CANCELED——Saturday, September 29th, 6:30pm
    Watch your favorite Boston team on the big screen!
  • Annual Field Day ——-Saturday, October 20th, 1pm to 5pm
    This family-oriented event will include old-fashioned races (3-legged, egg-on-the spoon, sack race, etc.) and a nature scavenger hunt. Moon walks, face painting, and seasonal refreshments will be available for a nominal charge.
  • Fall Clean up Day/Bulb Planting——-Saturday November 3rd, 9am to 12pm
    Join your friends and neighbors to get the park ready for winter (and spring)!

OTHER EVENTS AT ROBBINS FARM PARK

  • Astronomy Night ’12 with Jeff Alexander——-Saturday, July 14th, 8:30pm
    Bid farewell to Saturn and Mars as they set in the west a couple hours after the Sun goes down. As we get later into the year, they’ll be lost in sunlight and we won’t see them until our paths (or sight lines in this case) cross again. For more information check Arlington Astronomy Nights ’12
  • Astronomy Night ’12 with Jeff Alexander——-Sunday, August 18th, 8:45pm
    Explore the wonders of the deep sky! Use the summer constellations to learn to locate deep sky objects like star clusters, galaxies, and nebulas. Some of these objects can even be spotted with binoculars on a dark night, so bring a pair if you have them! For more information check Arlington Astronomy Nights ’12
  • Astronomy Night ’12 with Jeff Alexander——-Saturday, September 29th, 6:00pm
    A nearly full Moon rises tonight. At about 6:00 the Sun will set in the west and the Moon will rise over Boston in the east. Watch the moon rise and once it gets high enough, look through a telescope to see the craters on its surface. Bring your binoculars to study the moon’s features yourself!
