FRIENDS OF ROBBINS FARM PARK EVENTS
- FoRFP Annual Meeting ——- Wednesday, January 23rd, 6:45pm
Join us in the Community Room at the Robbins Memorial Library for the Friends of Robbins Farm Park Annual Meeting. This year, we are excited to have Bill Armstrong, the founder of Armstrong Ambulance and a life-long farm and park neighbor with us to share his reminiscences about Farmer Robbins and his farm. There will be presentations on the group’s accomplishments over the past year and the election of the board of directors, followed by a special celebration. This year marks a special birthday for two of our founders: Oakes Plimpton and Roly Chaput.
- Spring Cleanup & Kite Day——-Saturday, May 4th, 9am
Bring your trowels, rakes, leaf rakes, shovels and pruning shears and meet your neighbors at the Park! And while we’re there, we’ll celebrate the crocus, daffodils and tulips planted at Robbins Farm Park last fall! At 1pm, bring you kites as well and hope for good wind at one of the area’s best kite-flying locations. If you come early and help in the cleanup, you’ll get a free kite.
- Independence Day Celebration——- Thursday, July 4th, 6pm
On the 4th of July, Arlington will again celebrate America’s birthday in style at Robbins Farm Park. There will be musical entertainment provided by “The Reminisants”, refreshments, and of course, the Boston Pops Orchestra and Fireworks on the giant screen (fireworks start at 9:30pm). The event is free and open to all.
- Harvard Alumni Jazz Band ——–Free—–Wednesday, August 7th, 6pm
Join us on for a free jazz concert by the Alumni Jazz Band, a 15-piece jazz big band with members from Arlington and surrounding communities. Enjoy the music of Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and many others! The concert is FREE thanks to the generosity of the band, which includes neighborhood resident Allen Feinstein. This is a great event for all ages. We encourage people to bring your own picnic dinner.
- Animation Festival——-Saturday, August10th
An evening outdoor festival showcasing local animated work for all ages. Animated shorts will be projected on an outdoor screen. We will be kicking off the evening at 7pm with live music and the films will start at 8:30pm when the sun has set. Bring a picnic and blanket, buy some food from our vendors, and enjoy the night!The event is presented by Arlington Community Media Inc, Arlington Center for the Arts, The Friends of Robbins Farm Park, and Arlington International Film Festival.
- Shakespeare in the Park——- Sunday, August 18th, 5pm
Join us at the Park for an open-air presentation of a Shakespeare’s classic, “Romeo and Juliet” performed by The Actors Company.
- Movie Night——- Saturday, August 24th, approx 8pm.
The Friends will again present our popular movie night. After several short films, our feature is the popular Disney production, Cars. Light refreshments will be sold.
- Town Day——- Saturday, September 21st, 10am to 3:00pm
Come by the FORFP booth and say hello!
- Music Concerts——- Date & Time TBA
- Baseball Night——- Saturday, September 28th, 6:30pm
Watch your favorite Boston team on the big screen!
- Annual Field Day——- Saturday, October 19th, 1pm to 5pm
This family-oriented event will include old-fashioned races (3-legged, egg-on-the spoon, sack race, etc.) and a nature scavenger hunt. Moon walks, face painting, and seasonal refreshments will be available for a nominal charge.

- 2013 Arlington Soap Box Derby ——- Saturday, June 1st, 9am to 4pm
the ASBDA is a youth racing event that is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 through 17 who reside in Eastern Massachusetts.
- Astronomy Night ’13 with Jeff Alexander——-Saturday, June 15th, 8:30pm
The moon is half full, making this a great time to look at it with a telescope. See the depth of the craters by looking at the shadows cast along the light/dark line. Bring your binoculars to study the Moon yourself! Saturn is also up in the Southern sky this month.
- Astronomy Night ’13 with Jeff Alexander——-Saturday, July 13th, 8:45pm
See Saturn and its rings! Come early to watch Venus and the Moon set in the West.
- Astronomy Night ’13 with Jeff Alexander——-Saturday, August 10th, 9:30pm
Once full dark has arrived, lie back and take in the night sky while watching for meteors during the Perseid Meteor Shower! Come early to find a spot to lie down and watch the stars come out. The peak isn’t until the following night, but there should be some to see tonight.

Explore the wonders of the deep sky! Use the summer constellations to learn to locate deep sky objects like star clusters, galaxies, and nebulas. Some of these objects can even be spotted with binoculars on a dark night, so bring a pair if you have them!
